Static or Dynamic?

Author's note: This is a response about Johnny, a character from The Outsiders, stating whether he is a static or dynamic character. THIS DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK. Please leave a comment about how well you think I managed my sentence starters (it's something I want to improve on and something I was paying attention to during this writing piece).



In my belief Johnny is a dynamic character. For those that don't know, a dynamic character is a character that changes through out the story. In the beginning Johnny was a lost puppy tying to find a home, he was the gangs pet, he was just there and people protected him like they did with everyone else in the gang. The end of the book is where Johnny truly turns into a dynamic character. It starts the second Johnny kills Bob, Johnny left his fear behind and did something just to save his friend. Once they're in the church (Johnny and Ponyboy) and Johnny see's the sunset he realizes why Ponyboy likes it so much. The whole time the two are in the church together Johnny then see's who Ponyboy really is. When the church was on fire and children were stuck inside, the old Johnny would have never dived right in to save the children, the old him would have shied away and hoped the best for Ponyboy.
