“I agree to the trials” Daren answer. Those five words said it all, Daren now had to take place in the trials to become as respected as a full vampire. Daren was only a half vampire and people though little of him, he didn’t mind it much, he usually just ignored their insults. He wasn’t taking the trials to prove himself to the princes or the other vampires; he was doing it so his mentor, Mr. Crepsley, wouldn’t be looked down on by the others. Mr. Crepsley was a well respected vampire and Daren didn’t want to ruin that for him so Daren took the trials blindly only thinking about Mr. Crepsley. Not thinking about what might end happening to him when or if the trials end. The book, Trials of Death by Daren Shan is a fantastic book over all and I liked it a lot, especially certain things about it but, there were also something’s that I didn’t like about it though.
One of things I liked about the book is the detail in the book. Daren Shan (author) wrote it so there was a lot of detail in it but he didn’t make it where there was too much detail. With this book the detail was so good that I could mentally picture pretty much everything the author was explaining, and the stuff I was picturing was mind blowing! He described not just the characters’ vividly but also the set of where the scene was taking place. everything was described so well you almost fell like you're watching a movie but, instead of it being displayed on a tv it was displayed mentally.The detail of the book went hand in hand with the storyline of the book which I also liked a lot. The storyline was rapid and quick, just when there was a bland moment the action in the book picked up again. Also a thing that goes with the story line is the ending; the ending was so ironic and so unexpected it almost forces you to want to read the next book of the series.
There were a lot of things about the book that was good but, there are also a number of things that are bad. First thing that I didn’t like was the way he recapped everything that happened in the past books, Trials of Death is the fifth book of the series it’s rare that somebody would just take the fifth book of a series and read it. Another thing is around the middle of the book they had “the festival of the undead” which was made to celebrate the arival ofevery vampire that has made the journey to Vampire Mountain. That part of the book was boring and to me seemed a little bit pointless. It seemed like he trying to fill the book with useless details that most people probably don’t even care about. This book was fast passed and had a lot of “pull you in” moments but at times those "pull you in" moments were really confusing. Even though you wanted to keep reading to find out what happens next, you couldn’t, because you had to go back and re-read a page or two just to figure out what was going on.
Though the book Trials of Death has both its pros and cons it turned out having more pros than cons. Some of the cons though go throughout the entire book but, at the same time so do most of all the pros. The book Trials of Death by Daren Shan is a fantastic book with both its pros and cons. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading fantasy books, even J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, said “Fast-paced . . . full of satisfying macabre touches.”
